Ponderosa Speedway’s Season Opener Gets Sideways This Friday April 6
Junction City, KY- April 1, 2012- In what is sure to be one of the most anticipated season opening events in recent memory, Ponderosa Speedway track promoter Larry Yantz and co-promoters Chad and Sarah Yantz are ready to kick off the 2012 racing season this Friday April 6 at the 3/8 mile D-shaped red clay oval known as “Kentucky’s Baddest Bullring”.
The 2012 season opening event is set for April 6 and will feature all four weekly divisions in action. The Good Neighbor Pharmacy Late Models will race for $1,200 to win, while the Clayton Homes Modifieds will race for $600 to win. The Ken Towery’s Auto and Tire Center Sportsman will race for $300 to win, with the Bob Allen Motor Mall Street Stocks racing for $200 to win. The Late Model, Modified, and Sportsman divisions will time trial, while the Street Stock class will pill draw for heat race starting assignments. There will be qualifying heat races to determine feature race starting line-ups for all divisions. The highest finisher in the Late Model feature utilizing a Crate engine will receive a $100 bonus, with the second highest finisher using a Crate engine getting a $50 bonus.
Also of note, after each driver gets signed into the pit area, each driver will need to go to the registration window on the right side of the office to pill draw for qualifying order or for heat race starting positions, along with completing their driver registration information. Also, RACEceivers are required for all drivers in all divisions and must be in use at all times. Track points for the 2012 track championship points chase also start with the April 6 season opening event.
Activities for the April 6 season opener will see the pit area and general admission area open at 4:00 p.m., with the drivers meeting set for 6:50 p.m. Practice laps will begin at 7:15 p.m., followed by time trials at 7:45 p.m., with racing set for the green flag at 8:30 p.m. Ticket prices for the April 6 event in the general admission area will be $12 for adults, $5 for children ages 6 to 12, and children ages 5 and under admitted free with a paid adult. A pit pass will be $30.
